Greetings from the Head of the Community and the Head of the Undergraduate Program in Industrial Engineering, ITB

Welcome to the official website of the Undergraduate Program in Industrial Engineering at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB).

In reality, many industries in Indonesia are still not optimally managed, and the potential for the emergence and growth of new industries is immense. To address this, there is a growing need for engineering graduates with a broad understanding of the fundamental principles of Industrial Engineering—principles that can be applied across a wide range of professional sectors.

In Industrial Engineering, students learn knowledge, mindsets, principles, approaches, and skills that are firmly rooted in engineering science—particularly in the design process. However, unlike disciplines such as Civil Engineering (which designs physical structures like bridges and buildings), Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (which design aircraft), or Electrical Engineering (which deals with power plants), the object of design in Industrial Engineering is an integrated system consisting of people, machines, materials, energy, and information. The main focus is on how such systems can be designed to achieve effective, efficient, and productive performance.

Why choose the Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Program at ITB?

The Undergraduate Program in Industrial Engineering at ITB aims to produce outstanding graduates. To achieve this goal, the program implements a robust curriculum that has earned an A accreditation from Indonesia’s National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT), and is also internationally accredited by ABET. The curriculum goes beyond classroom theory and includes practical experience through laboratory work, industrial visits, internships, and real-world projects.

Excellence in Industrial Engineering is measured not only by hard skills, but also by soft skills. These competencies must be continuously developed during the course of university education. Therefore, in addition to academic activities, our program offers extensive opportunities for students to engage in extracurricular experiences aimed at strengthening soft skills. These include active participation in the Industrial Engineering Student Association (MTI), competitions, summer schools, and international student exchange programs. All of these are designed to prepare students to become well-rounded and competitive Industrial Engineering graduates.

Graduates of our program enjoy diverse and expansive career prospects, with a wide range of industries and job levels available. Based on an alumni survey conducted in 2020, graduates have pursued careers in the following sectors:

  • Information and communication

  • Financial and insurance services

  • Manufacturing

  • Mining and quarrying

  • Electricity, gas, steam/hot water, and air conditioning supply

  • Wholesale and retail trade; vehicle and motorcycle repair

  • Transportation and warehousing

  • Accommodation and food service activities

  • Professional, scientific, and technical activities

  • Public administration, defense, and mandatory social security

  • Education

  • Arts, entertainment, and recreation

  • Other service activities

The same survey showed that 100% of alumni found a high degree of relevance between what they studied and the work they do today.

We invite you to become a part of our community and grow with us in the Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Program at ITB!

Sincerely,
Dr. Wisnu Aribowo, S.T., M.T.
